Speaking on Meet the Press, Noem stated that authorities believe Lakanwal "was radicalized since he's been here in this country," specifically pointing to connections made in his home community in Washington state.
The Context:
The Suspect: Lakanwal arrived in the US in 2021 after working with CIA-backed units in Afghanistan. He was granted asylum just this past April.
The Incident: Last Wednesday, he ambushed two National Guard soldiers near the White House, killing Spc. Sarah Beckstrom (20) and critically wounding Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe (24).
