Following a vile "intifada" riot outside a Nefesh B'Nefesh Aliyah event, New York’s major Jewish organizations are calling for a massive show of strength.
New York City’s Jewish community is drawing a line in the sand. This Thursday, December 4, at 6:00 PM, a coalition of major Jewish organizations—including the UJA-Federation, JCRC-NY, and the ADL—will hold a Solidarity Rally outside Park East Synagogue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The rally is a direct response to a harrowing incident on November 19, when an anti-Israel mob descended on the synagogue during a Nefesh B’Nefesh Aliyah Open House. What was intended to be an informational session for Jews considering moving to Israel turned into a scene of intimidation and hatred.
The "Riot" on November 19: Protesters, organized by the group PAL-Awda NY/NJ (Palestinian Assembly for Liberation), besieged the synagogue entrance behind police barriers. Video footage and witness reports confirmed that the demonstration went far beyond political speech, crossing into direct threats and antisemitic abuse.
Chants included: "Globalize the Intifada," "Death to the IDF," "Resistance is glorious," and "Take another settler out."
Intimidation: A protest leader was recorded telling the crowd, "We need to make them scared." Attendees entering the synagogue were heckled with slurs, including being called "F*ing Jewish pricks" and "Nazis."
Targeting Aliyah: The mob branded the Nefesh B'Nefesh event a "settler recruiting fair," explicitly criminalizing the act of Jews moving to their ancestral homeland.
Political Failure: Adding to the community's outrage was the response from New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. In a statement that shocked many, Mamdani engaged in "both-sidesism," suggesting that while intimidation is wrong, sacred spaces like synagogues "should not be used to promote activities in violation of international law"—effectively validating the mob's premise that helping Jews move to Israel is a crime. ZAH Perspective: This was not a protest; it was a siege on a sanctuary. When a mob stands outside a synagogue chanting "Globalize the Intifada"—a direct call for violence reminiscent of the suicide bombings of the early 2000s—they are not criticizing policy; they are threatening Jewish life. The attempt to rebrand Aliyah (immigration to Israel) as "illegal settlement" is a dangerous escalation in the delegitimization war. It implies that a Jew has no right to live in the Land of Israel, regardless of where they reside.
Advocacy Angle: We must show up—physically or digitally. The organizers have stated: "Together, we will always defend our community’s values. And we will never waver in our support for Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish homeland."
ACTION (NYC Locals): Attend the rally Thursday, Dec 4 @ 6:00 PM near Park East Synagogue (163 East 67th St).
ACTION (Global): Share the images of the Nov 19 riot. Tag Mayor-elect Mamdani and demand he retract his statement blaming the synagogue. Moral clarity is not optional for a Mayor of NYC.
Prayer Point:
"Violence shall no more be heard in your land, wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise." (Isaiah 60:18)
Guardian of Israel, spread Your shelter of peace over the synagogues of the diaspora. We pray for the community of Park East and all Jews in New York. Give them courage to stand proud and unafraid. We ask that You silence the tongues that chant for death and "Intifada," and instead, let the streets of New York echo with the strength of Jewish unity. May the police be vigilant, and may the hearts of our leaders be turned toward truth.
