The Writings: Wisdom, History, and Prophecy
Welcome to The Writings (Ketuvim), the third and final pillar of the TENACH series.
The Heart & Soul of Scripture. If the Torah is the "Constitution" of the Jewish people, and the Prophets are the "Historical Records" enforcing that law, then The Writings are the personal journals, the songs, and the ultimate wisdom of the nation.
In this course, we bridge the critical gap between common external interpretations and the profound reality of the Hebrew text. While the Prophets brought the word of God down to man, The Writings carry the word of man up to God. Through the Psalms of David, the Wisdom of Solomon, and the visions of Daniel, we explore the deepest internal struggles of the human spirit—from the heights of love in Song of Songs to the depths of grief in Lamentations.
Guided by the unbroken chain of transmission from King David to Ezra the Scribe, we strip away centuries of misconception to reveal the text as it was meant to be understood: as the ultimate guide to coping with life’s challenges, sufferings, and the search for meaning.
Course Objectives
Decode the Structure: Master the organization of the books of the Writings, including the Five Scrolls (Megillot) that address the full spectrum of human emotion.
Unify the History: Understand the transition from the First Temple to the Second Commonwealth under Ezra and Nehemiah, and how these leaders restored normative Jewish life through legal enactments (takanot).
Explore the Depths: Learn the Pardes system of exegesis—Pshat (literal), Remez (allusion), Drash (homiletic), and Sod (secret)—to unlock the allegorical love story of Song of Songs and the mystical secrets of Chronicles.
Master the Liturgy: Discover how King David’s Psalms (Tehillim) became the "prayer book of humanity," providing a language of praise and petition for every circumstance "from the womb to the tomb."
What You Will Learn
The "User Manual" of Wisdom: Practical moral instruction from Proverbs (Mishlei) on discipline, wealth, and relationships, juxtaposed with the existential paradoxes of Ecclesiastes (Kohelet).
The Theology of Suffering: A deep dive into the Book of Job (Iyov), exploring the mystery of righteous suffering and fidelity to God amidst loss.
Hiddenness & Revelation: How the Book of Esther reveals God’s protection even when His name is hidden (hester), while Daniel reveals the explicit timeline of the End of Days (Achrit Hayamim).
The Sinai Standard: A study of Ruth, the Moabite convert whose loyalty established the requirement for Jewish conversion and paved the way for the Messianic lineage.
The Anatomy of Lament: How Lamentations (Eicha) uses complex acrostics to express that the nation had transgressed the law from Aleph to Tav (A to Z).
Who Should Enroll
Bible Believers, Christians & Lovers of Zion: Those seeking inspiration for "the game of life" from the poetic books (Psalms, Proverbs), stripped of replacement theology.
Baalei Teshuva, Noahides & Converts: Those who need a structured Jewish understanding of the text beyond Sunday School stories, learning from the example of Ruth and the leadership of Ezra.
Students of "The Final Season": You enhance your understanding of the timelines of Course 1 by mastering the prophecies of Daniel and Ecclesiastes found here.
